We are delighted to announce that Ezra (pictured above) has been awarded this year's scholarship, created in memory of Shannon Bryan as selected by Shannon's mother (and mine!), Barbara.
Ezra is a multi-talented individual who moved to Vancouver to thrive in its vibrant arts scene while also studying filmmaking at Simon Fraser University. Balancing university, auditions, and an evening job, she still managed to be signed with a top talent agency. Despite her busy schedule, Ezra maintains honors grades, investing all her free time into pursuing her artistic passions. Ezra exemplifies the creativity, dedication and resiliency needed to succeed in her chosen field of study - and we wish her all the luck in the world.
We asked Ezra, of Ulkatchu First Nation descent, a few questions so you can get to know her a little better:
1. What inspired you to pursue film study, and how do you hope to make an impact in that area?
My inspiration for choosing this field of study lies completely in my pursuit for fulfillment. Art in any form to me is a gift, and I feel lucky that I'm able process my thoughts and feelings in a creative way. Art is meant to be shared and I hope that throughout my life I can be a relatable outlet for others to find comfort in, and hopefully sharing my process will inspire others to do the same.
2. If you could have dinner with any influential person, past or present, who would it be?
If I could have dinner with anyone at all who has inspired me, it would be my dad.
3. What is one big dream or goal on your list that you hope to achieve in the next five years?
In the next five years, I'd like to release an album (or two) and go on tour—my lifelong ambition.
4. If you could travel anywhere in the world, in any time period, where would you go and what would you hope to learn or experience?
If I could travel anywhere to any time period, I would visit the Mayan civilization in Mesoamerica. I find the culture so fascinating and would absolutely love to soak up the history and spiritual essence of the area.
5. What's a fun fact about you that not many people know about you?
A fun fact about me is that I can lick my elbow! Seriously, no lie.
(SIDE NOTE: After reading this I tried to lick my elbow, and it's impossible! If you can, let me know. - Denise)
Ezra's passion, creativity, and dedication to her craft make her a deserving recipient of this scholarship. We are excited to support her journey and watch how she continues to inspire others through her calling.
Congratulations, Ezra!
